“Signed Court Order Without Reading Its Contents” — NSJSC Dismisses Five Judicial Officers, Suspends Three For Misconduct

The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has dismissed five judicial officers and suspended three others, including a magistrate, for various acts of misconduct as part of ongoing efforts to sanitise and strengthen the state’s judicial system.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, announced the disciplinary actions in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the sanctions followed findings of serious breaches of duty and unethical conduct.
According to Shafa, two of the dismissed officers, Alhmed Murabus and Mohammed Abdullahi, were removed for abandoning their duty posts for more than four years and two years, respectively.
The other dismissed officers are Bawa Maikeffi, Emmanuel Ombugadu, and Success Redeem Ayuba. Their offences include colluding with the police to unlawfully detain citizens during a nationwide strike (Maikeffi), fraudulently issuing an ex parte order and forging a judge’s signature (Ombugadu), and wrongfully convicting an individual for criminal breach of trust (Ayuba).
In addition, Magistrate Ayuba Enjugu was suspended after being found guilty of signing a court order without reading its contents.
Shafa said the Commission considered the disciplinary measures necessary to promote professionalism, accountability, and improved service delivery within the judiciary.
In a related development, the Commission approved the promotion of 482 judiciary staff and confirmed the appointments of four judicial officers following a rigorous performance assessment.
He urged the newly promoted and confirmed officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
